It's about time the legislature took on these independent plastic surgeons and other doctors that run their mini-empires, essentially unregulated, from inside of their offices. I've watched countless programs on television where the physician has been doing what amounts to fairly extensive surgery with a nurse only assistant and, at times, an anesthetist. People, as in patients, for the most part are totally unaware of what level of cleanliness is being maintained, what emergency procedures are in place, even how to reach the doctor and not his pager after the surgery is completed (unlike a hospital). It's incumbent on the state to regulate these mini operating rooms and if they're unwilling or unable to do it then an accreditation association ought to be brought in.
